Microsoft will allow employees to work from home forever. While most Microsoft employees are working from home because of the pandemic, the software maker unveiled plans to create more flexibility when offices open their doors.

Microsoft employees can work 50% of their working hours from home but only for a few roles which create this opportunity. Some roles will require employees to be in company offices such as hardware labs, data centers, and training.

Employees can also ask to work from home or even from another part of the world if the function allows it. Microsoft will cover office costs for all permanent employees from home while those who relocate voluntarily should only cover expenses.

Microsoft's latest move comes after the company confirmed that by January 2021 employees will not be returning to work offices. Facebook has done the same where employees can work from home for the next 5 to 10 years.
