This is the first city in Europe to accept "invasion" by the 5G network

The current situation caused by coronavirus pandemic has shown how important digital communication has become in all areas of life.

A member of Vienna's local government for digitalization, Peter Hanke, set a goal: "Vienna must become the first city in Europe to be fully covered by the 5G network."

With a funding program of 20 million euros, the city of Vienna now ensures that the necessary investments have been made to expand the network quickly.

"For Vienna, as the best city to live in, good communication technology is needed. With the expansion of the wide fiber-optic band, mobile communication is one of the essential features that make it an extraordinary place to live and a modern business location with the latest technology. 5G is the latest generation of mobile network and mobile internet is becoming more and more important, especially now that we are seeing it now in a crisis. That's why we support the rapid expansion of the 5G network in Vienna by 20 million euros, "said Peter Hanke, a member of the city's finance and digitalization government.

"Digitalization is more important today than ever before and can help us overcome this crisis better," said Marcus Grausam, Director of A1 (Telekom Austria Group).

“Well-developed broadband networks, based on the use of digital potential, and 5G is a key technology for digitizing business location. Earlier this year, we started with the largest 5G network, with 60 locations already in Vienna.
